Husky NewsNotes

From the Superintendent

By George Griffith

July 01, 2007

Welcome to Northern Valley Huskies’ 2007-2008 school year.  The staff at Northern Valleycontinues to work hard to provide an excellent education for all students and it is my pleasure to be the new instructional leader of this group of professional educators.  My goal for our district is to continue to provide the best education for each individual student.  To meet this goal, we need to give students the opportunity to gain the knowledge they need to enter society as motivated, skilled, and successful individuals.  If you have any questions please contact me at ggriffnv@ruraltel.net or call the school (785) 669-2445, my cell (785) 664-8231, or my home (785) 664-4081 and I will help you in any way I can.  Thanks for your continued support of the Northern Valley Huskies and have a great year.

NEW START TIMES AND EXCHANGE BUS TIME

This year the Long Island Middle School will begin at 8:00 a.m. and dismiss at 3:15 p.m. We will run the exchange bus from Almena to Long Island at 7:45 a.m. with the exchange bus going straight through to L.I. and back from L.I. at 8:00 a.m.  Long Island will start school at 8:00 a.m. and Almena will start school at 8:15 a.m.  This will eliminate stopping at the county line and maintain the safety of our exchange bus route.  By extending the day by 15 minutes, we are able to provide more hours of instruction while decreasing the total number school days.

SCHOOL SAFETY HOTLINE

As a result of school violence in our country, the 1999 Kansas Legislature appropriated funds to assist the State Department of Education, in cooperation with the Kansas Highway Patrol, in establishing a School Safety Hotline.  This hotline is toll free number available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year to give student, parents, and community members the opportunity to report any impending school violence.  As you are aware, students usually have knowledge of potential school violence before it occurs.  This hotline gives students the opportunity to anonymously report any potential violence.

The Kansas School Safety Hotline Number is:  1-877-626-8203
