Husky freshman Kayla completed her first year of high school cross country by placing at the state meet on Saturday at Wamego. Her time of 17:20 earned her 18th place.
Kayla started her training before school even started by doing some research on the internet and downloading a runners workout from the west coast. With the help of her dad Curtis, they measured off different distances for her sprint portion of the workout. The work she did all summer paid off during the season as she earned a medal in every race she entered this year.
With dad and brother Coltin at the US Team Roping Championships in Oklahoma City during the weekend, and grandmother Marilyn tending to a shop that exploded just after leaving Long Island, mom Cindy, sisters Cassie and Chalee help Kayla celebrate her accomplishments.
