Forensics meet in Norton

February 12, 2008
Saturday, February 9th started with an early wake up call for several Northern Valley students. The forensics kids had their third meet of the year. On this particular morning, we did not have as far to travel because the meet was in Norton. The Long Island cooks continue to spoil the kids with cookies. My thanks to Irma Lauren and Launa Hopkins for the chocolate chip delights. The students really enjoyed them (so did the coach I am told). Connie Cox went along as a sponsor and judge for our team.
Those attending the meet and their areas that they were competing in were: Travis Redeker (Hum. Solo and DUET), Michael Callaway (IDA and DUET), Hutch Gehrke (IDA and Prose), Bryce Bird (Oration), Stanton Nelson (Informative and (IDA), Jordan Herman (IDA), Sara Porter (Poetry), Christina Anderson (DUET), Megan Cole (DUET), Bryant Tharman (Prose), Matt Dole (Poetry), Samuel Field (Extemporaneous and Poetry), Amy Shearer (Prose), and Kayla Field (Serious Solo).
Fifteen schools competed in the three preliminary rounds with grueling competition. Those from Northern Valley making it to the finals and their placings were: Matt Dole (fifth place), Kayla Field (fourth place), Travis and Michael (fourth place), and Stanton Nelson (first place – Inform). The efforts of ALL of the students on the team contributed enough points to place third in the meet. WAY TO GO LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!!! Make sure if you see any of these young men and women …… that you congratulate them on a job well done.
Our next meet is in Ellis on March 1st. From that date until the first week of April ……. We will get very busy. There will be seven meets in that one month time period. So don’t expect these students to take the next three weeks off …….. they will be working harder than ever, putting the finishing touches on, and most of all ……… getting well. :-)
