Ellis Meet ( 03 - 01 - 08)

by Ken Tharman

March 06, 2008

Northern Valley Students attend the Ellis Forensics Meet

Saturday, March 1st started with one of the earliest times yet for departure …….. 0545 Hrs. Yes, that is 5:45 AM.  Meaning, kids need to be up at least half an hour before that to get to the school (depending how far away they live).  Add to that the Sub – state playoffs on Friday night in Colby …….. and you have the makings of EXTREMELY tired young men and women.

Despite all of this, twelve students made their way to the west side of the school for the early leave time.  An hour and forty – five minutes later, we arrived in Ellis for the Forensics meet.  Thanks to my driving partner/judge/sponsor, Michelle Tharman, all students arrived safely.  Those attending were:  Amanda Hopkins (DUET), Hannah Hawks (DUET & Poetry), Megan Cole (DUET), Christina Anderson (DUET & IDA), Samuel Field (Poetry), Travis Redeker (DUET & IDA), Jordan Herman (Hum. Solo), Kayla Field (Ser. Solo), Skyler Harris (Prose & IDA), Michael Callaway (DUET & IDA), Matt Dole (Poetry), and Bryant Tharman (Prose).

The draw events started at 8:00 AM.  Three rounds later, the top six competitors went to the final round.  With twenty schools and over 180 entries, there was plenty of competition.  Those making it to the final round and their placings were: Hannah – Poetry (3rd place) and Travis & Christina – DUET (6th place).  Congratulations to all of these students for putting in so much time and effort when they have so many other things going on in their lives.  These events instill confidence and many times ……. They are fun as well. :-) Hope to see you at the next meet.
