NV Forensic Students Travel to Beloit

Tuesday, March 4th ….. our first weekday meet of the season.  This was our fifth competition which marks the half way point.  The Almena cooks were kind enough to allow the Forensic students to eat early so we could be on the road by 11:20 AM.  Our destination on this day was St. John’s Catholic School in Beloit.  Those attending the meet were: Jordan Herman (IDA & Hum. Solo), Brittney Braun (Informative), Stanton Nelson (Oration & IDA), Travis Redeker (Hum. Solo & IDA), Christina Anderson (IDA & DUET), Skyler Harris (Prose), Kayla Field (Ser. Solo & IDA), and Megan Cole (DUET & IDA).

The good things about week day events are: we get out of school :-), it is day light when traveling, and there are only two preliminary rounds.  The bad things about week day events are:  making lesson plans and getting work done ahead of time, it is dark when traveling home, and there are only two preliminary rounds.  You will notice that the two rounds are in both lists.  Students do not use as much energy in two performances, yet, if they have one bad round …… that is half of the competition.  Some students like it better and others do not ………. Kind of like every thing else, I guess. :-)

Those students making it to the finals and their placings were: Jordan – Hum. Solo (5th place), Travis – Hum. Solo (4th place), Stanton – Oration (3rd place), and Kayla – Ser. Solo (2nd place).  Way to go gang!!!!  After a ………. Shall we say, “Energetic” ride home, the kids were able to crash in their beds around 11 – 11:30 PM.  Thanks go out to Bryan Shearer for acting as sponsor (which he did not sign on for) and driver.  Thanks again to the Long Island cooks for the wonderful cookies they sent along.  That is probably one of the definites the kids count on each meet……….. Until Colby on the thirteenth of this month ……. Keep your act together . :-)
