Dear Parents / Guardians,

Can you believe we are done with the third nine – weeks of the year?  I know ….. it seems to be going by so quickly!!  Here we are in the middle of March already …… kids are ready for spring break …… Easter is right around the corner …. The Wax Museum is on the 24th ……. The same day track practice starts …… Before you know it …… it will time for graduations, picnics, fishing, and many other activities.

Did you know ……. In the 6th century BC, Greek mathematician Pythagoras said that earth is round? - but few agreed with him.

But ……. Before we get that far, let’s talk about the things that we need to be doing in the “here and now”.  :-)  The one big thing looming on my mind is the Wax Museum.  I really enjoy this project and the kids seem to be getting in to it as well.  With spring break in the middle of March this year, it will take some planning on both our parts to ensure the kids are ready.  There will be two performances on the 24th …… the first will be from 11 – 11:30 AM in the Long Island gymnasium for parents and Long Islanders that are unable to make it to the night performance.  This is the “dress rehearsal”.  That night we will have our second and grand expo in the HS band room from 7:30 - 8:30 PM during the senior/faculty games.  Please be creative with the costumes so the kids can have fun while doing it.

Did you know ……. Greek astronomer Aristarchos said in the 3rd century BC that earth revolves around the sun?- but the idea was not accepted.

Everyone is done with their first draft of the biography report today.  Over the weekend, I will edit them.  Then we will make final drafts next week, pick out and start memorizing our paragraphs, and practice in the gym.  With only four days next week, it will go very quickly.

Did you know …… In the 2nd century BC, Greek astronomer Erastosthenes accurately measured the distance around the earth at about 40,000 km (24,860 miles) - but nobody believed him.

Next week we will be changing our seating arrangements for the last time this year.  There are not a lot of choices that can be made when circling around nine chairs, but we seem to make enough change they notice. :-)  Costs for not getting planners signed will go up to four tickets starting next week.  The cost for not getting information written down will also go up to four tickets as well.  They will get four tickets each day for coming to school and then those I hand out periodically for use of time and study sessions.

Did you know …….. In the 2nd century AD, Greek astronomer Ptolemy stated that earth was the center of the universe?  - Most people believed him for the next 1,400 years.

Next week is Severe Weather Awareness week.  There will be sirens going off in every town around to test the warning sirens.  Please go over emergency protocols with your child/ren so they know what to do in the event you are not at home with them when threatening weather strikes.
