Dear Parents/Guardians,

Wow, spring is certainly making a stand, isn’t it?  It is great to wake up in the morning and not have to warm up the vehicle before taking off.  It is wonderful to have to actually decide whether to go outside for recess or stay in.  It is refreshing to see green grass and flowers emerging from their winter nap.  Most of all …….. it is OUTSTANDING to be able to get outside on the weekend and start yard work .:-) Yeah, right!!!

Do you know  ……. How long the hundred years war lasted?

One hundred sixteen years (1337 – 1453)

Anyway ………. track practice has begun and the kids are hard at it again with their studies.  Now that spring break is over, we can concentrate on getting ready for the State Assessments in Social Studies.  Thought we were done? Sorry.  We are scheduled to take the tests on April 8th and 9th. This is the first time for these assessments so they are not trying to meet a standard ……. They are setting the standard, so – to – speak.

Book order forms were given to the students on Monday.  I will not send them in until next Friday.  This is the last set for the year …… so if you are wanting to get some summer reading, this is the time.  Also ….. I know I do not mention them very often, but the local libraries are an AWESOME place to get books to read as well.  You do not even have to pay for them there …… unless you are late in returning them, lost the book, or other things. :-)

Do you know …….. who makes Panama hats?

Ecuador

Next week is the first track meet of the season.  The kids will be excited …… and may forget to think about the necessities.  Please make sure that they have sun screen, proper clothing, their track gear, lunches, and plenty of water.  They will leave here at 10:30 AM for the meet. Those students that are not out for track will have a regular day.  Those that go to the meet will be given the assignments we will cover.

The Junior High Music contest will be held on Wednesday, April 2nd.  The bus will leave from Almena at 6:35 AM and from Long Island at 6:50 AM.  Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest the night before this competition so that they are able to perform at their full potential. I am unsure of what dress code is expected …… since it is a competition ….. I am sure that Mrs. David and Mr. Wetter are expecting them to look sharp.

Do you know …. In which month the Russians celebrate the October Revolution?

November – their calendar was 13 days behind ours.

REMINDER: Tonight is the Fit and Fun Friday night that is to be held in the Almena gymnasium.  The sponsors have requested that the kids participating bring a coat and tennis shoes (weird name for shoes if we don’t play tennis …. Huh?). Anyway.

Do you know ……. What a camel hair brush is made from?

Squirrel fur.
