 Forensic science (often shortened to forensics) is the application of a broad spectrum of sciences to answer questions of interest to the legal system. This may be in relation to a crime or to a civil action. The use of the term "forensics" in place of "forensic science" could be considered incorrect; the term "forensic" is effectively a synonym for "legal" or "related to courts" (from Latin, it means "before the forum"). However, it is now so closely associated with the scientific field that many dictionaries include the meaning that equates the word "forensics" with "forensic science.

Okay, so we really don't have a CSI team and the public speaking explanation is: 

 Public speaking is the process of speaking to a group of people in a structured, deliberate manner intended to inform, influence, or entertain the listeners. The art and science of public speaking, especially in a North American competitive environment, is also known as forensics.

The 2008 team competed at Phillipsburg on Tuesday, April 1st, and did very well.  (See article under the Clubs and Organization section, Forensics tab).  Not only were the student's and coach busy all evening, NV's Chris Robertson was a volunteer judge for the event.

Congratulations Coach Tharman on a great year and best of luck to the team as they continue on to state.
