League Forensics Meet

Wednesday morning …… April 2nd. Yes ….. I know it seems impossible, but it is true. We attended two forensic meets in two days. As a matter – of – fact, Northern Valley students went to four meets in a one – week time period. Needless to say, if you see high school kids walking around and not talking ………. It just may be that they have talked themselves out. Well ….. I doubt that, but it is possible. :-)
Students had just returned from the Phillipsburg meet on Tuesday evening and many of the same ones were ready to roll on Wednesday morning at 7:45 AM. The following students attended the League Forensics meet in Ransom: Skyler Harris (Oration & Poetry), Jordan Herman (Humorous Solo), Travis Redeker (Humorous Solo & Duet), Amanda Hopkins (Serious Solo & Duet), Hannah Hawks (Extemporaneous & Duet), Michael Callaway (Duet & Improvised Duet Acting), Matt Dole (Poetry), Bryant Tharman (Prose), Christina Anderson (Improvised Duet Acting & Duet), and Megan Cole (Duet).
After a short night and a long ride, we arrived at Western Plains High School for the League tournament. There were four schools from within the league present. To make it a qualifying meet for state, four other schools were invited to bring students that had not previously qualified yet this year. After two preliminary rounds, the following students made it to the finals: Hannah & Amanda – DUET (2nd), Matt – Poetry (4th), Skyler – Prose (5th) & Oration (3rd), Bryant – Prose (3rd), Jordan – Humorous Solo (3rd), Travis – Humorous Solo (4th), Amanda – Serious Solo (2nd), and Hannah – Extemporaneous (4th). Thanks to the efforts of the entire team, Northern Valley finished 2nd
Avery big thank you goes out to Janette Callaway and Gale Hays for taking time to travel two hours each way for this meet and represent Northern Valley as judges. I would also like to thank Brian Spear for driving us there and back safely. We can not forget the faithful and always ready, cookie ladies in the Long Island school.
The last thank you I would like to send out for the regular season of forensics is probably the one most deserved. A HUGE THANK YOU to my lovely wife, Michelle. She puts up with my way – to – busy schedule, accompanies me when I get in a jam or need a driver, and many, many other things that help behind the scenes. Michelle, I definitely could not do this without you.
