Middle School Happenings
By Robbie Griffiths
November 20, 2009
For our entry this week, I have chosen two of our earlier writing assignments from each class. My goal is to have each student to have one selection published by the end of the year. The basketball teams traveled to Brewster for their first games of the year. The boys were victorious, and the girls played hard and came close in one of their games. I don’t know about you, but it is hard to think or realize basketball season is upon us. We are also to the half way point of this grading period. If you have not received a report from your child, you might want to ask to see it. My classes have just finished their literature book for this nine weeks. The seventh graders are to be guardians of an egg baby instead of a sugar baby for a week. The eighth graders are going to be sampling some sour dough bread like they read about in their book, THE BREAD SISTER OF SINKING CREEK. The sixth graders are studying about pyramids and mummies in Egypt and will be doing an art project to go along with their studies. We keep busy on the top floor. Enjoy the following student selections. Thank you for reading.
VOLLEYBALL by Dakota Hilburn, 8th
Have you even had that perfect bump, set, or spike? Well, the girls on our volleyball team have had a few of those. We have had two games so far, Logan Trojans and the Quinter Bulldogs. We lost against Logan and won against Quinter. We have been practicing hard at getting serves over and such. Our upcoming game is Stockton. We plan to cream the Stockton Tigers. We’ve been working really hard in practice. If we work hard enough, we will be able to “set it up” every time. That’s all for now so…Go Huskies Go.
LUNCH by Aaron Pinzenscham, 8th
Have you ever ate lunch? Yes, you have. This is the story of a lunch made by the Northern Valley cooks. Every lunch made by the cooks is good, except for the pizza. It’s good, but has too much cheese. The best is when they make nachos. They are so good they make McDonalds look like a sissy girl. I also like cheeseburgers. They practically melt in your mouth, not really though, that would hurt. They must be proud when they get home. They think, WOW, I made the best food ever today. SWEET! Well, now you know the tale of our school lunches.
FOOTBALL by Kobie Unterseher, 7th
Don’t you just love when you score a touchdown or get to start a game? This year the whole 7th grade class has a chance to participate in that. The football team has been practicing hard all week just to do that. This year participating in football is really exciting. I think we will have a good year in sports, Go Huskies.
I also like to watch college and pro football. That’s one of my favorite things to do. I love to watch how they play and all the hard hits they make. Sometimes my dad takes me to a Nebraska football game and that’s always fun. Watching college and pro football from the game or at home is something I love to do.
WHY I LIKE SPORTS by Ame Baird, 7th
Sports have been a really big part of my life ever since I can remember. I mean really, who doesn’t like watching your favorite team win a nail biter or when you make a big play to help win a game? I participate in many sports. Some of which are football, baseball, and basketball.
Football is my all time favorite sport. I just love the sound of two guys going full speed and slamming into each other. I have played football since I was in fourth grade and have been a fan of the sport my entire life.
Baseball is another sport I’ve played and watched since I was little. It feels pretty amazing when you get a huge hit or make an awesome out. I play every position except catcher and shortstop. My favorite major league team is the Kansas City Royals.
Last but not least, I also play basketball. I like basketball because it is a fast game and you can’t really tell what will happen. Basketball is also a sport where you have to communicate with each other.
I play more sports, but these three are my favorite. I like watching sports as well. I love watching other teams play and seeing the game in the eyes of the fan instead of the player.
SOFTBALL by Shayna Vincent, 6th
This summer I played softball. Our team was called Windmill Farms and Almena Agri Services. We got first in our league. We played each team three times. We got beat once, but then we beat them two other times. I played first base the first three innings and shortstop the fourth and fifth innings. Softball is one of my favorite things to look forward to in the summer.
FISHING AT NATHAN’S HOUSE by Camden Cox, 6th
One day during summer vacation, my family and I took a trip to Nathan’s house to go fishing and to play. Out on the deck, Nathan got me a fishing pole with a special bait to bring fish over to it. So I put the bait on the hook, the hook in the water, and the next thing I knew, BAM! I caught one! This was the best fishing trip ever!
