Oberlin Forensic Meet (01 - 30 - 10)

by Ken Tharman

February 08, 2010

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The 2010 Forensics’ Season has begun.  This year the Northern Valley team has twenty members.  Many are returning from last year and we have several shining fresh faces to add to the roster.  We started meeting in October once a month to lay the foundations of our team.  Before Christmas break, most of the students had their material …… in case they got bored away from their friends.  :-)  With the extended break, it was not until the middle of January that we were able to start working regularly with the kids.

Our first meet was in Oberlin on Saturday, January 30th.  Due to a postponed basketball game and a scheduled Scholars Bowl, the number of students able to go was limited.  Those attending were: Christina Anderson, Kayla Lowry, Jordan Herman, Jon Compton, Ashley Constable, Alex Tharman, and Patience Coffman.  Heather Hansen went along to judge and provide moral support to the team.  We always appreciate anyone willing to assist in either, or both, of these areas.

After three rounds of butterflies – in – the – stomach, three of our five events made it to the final round.  Here are the names of those students, their area of performance, and final placing.  Patience  – 5th place (serious solo acting), Christina and Kayla – 5th place (Duet acting), and Jordan – 3rd place (humorous solo acting).  CONGRATULATIONS to all of those participating.

Our next meet is scheduled for Saturday, January 13th in Norton.  The kids will be busy rehearsing,  AND trying to keep up on school work,  AND trying to keep up basketball, dance, cheerleading, AND still try to maintain a social life.  You have to hand to these young men and women that take on these challenges.  They put themselves under a great deal of stress in order to achieve success.  Make sure you take the time to go and watch and encourage them in their endeavors.

Until next time …….. If you think your life has drama ………. you know what we are talking about.
