Under the Microscope (03 - 04 - 10)
March 05, 2010
Dear Parents/Guardians,
First of all, our condolences and prayers go to the Gale Hays family with the recent loss of his father and to Cheri Griffiths and her family with the recent loss of her father.
We are at the end of the third nine – week period already. It has gone by extremely fast ……. and if you think this one went quickly ……. the next one will be even faster. I have been harping on the kids to get late assignments in by today; there are still some that did not get them in. They will show up as zeros on the progress report. They are still able to hand them in because we use a cumulative grade of the entire semester. If you happen to notice one of those missing grades, or you feel there is a discrepancy somewhere, please let me know. Believe it or not …… I do make mistakes……… a lot, normally. :-)
Next week is Parent/Teacher conferences. They will be in Almena this round. If you would like to visit with me at a specific time, please get a hold of Ann or Sommer and set up an appointment, otherwise, I will just see those that take time to drop by on a first – come – first – serve basis.
5th Grade:
We just wrapped up three lessons that covered a lot of basics. We are now going to start building on those ideas. Lesson four will start with an activity that will probably encompass two days. We will start the reading and WB pages on Thursday.
6th Grade:
We will be starting on the moon in lesson three. This is a difficult section for a lot of students. I am going to do an activity that seems to help, but I encourage you at home to go over this with them. I will assign workbook pages on Tuesday and they will be DUE on Monday when we come back from spring break. Most will probably have them done before that, but again, find out from your child to ensure those good grades.
7th Grade:
The seventh graders have been working on chapter seven and taking practice state assessments. This double duty in Science is tasking, but they are holding up well. With the many things we are covering, it is easy to get behind if they do not keep up on their work, please check to ensure your child is getting assignments handed in on time. We will do another student led state assessment review next week and end the week with a chapter review that will be due when the students return from break.
8th Grade:
This class has been rapidly moving through chapter 14 in limited amounts of time. They have struggled with the lesson assessments. I am going to spend two days going over the concepts next week when we can actually have a regular class to make sure they have grasped these ideas. They will do a chapter review on Thursday that will be DUE when they return from break.
