MIDDLE SCHOOL HAPPENINGS
This last week of April was a whirlwind in the middle school. The track team had two meets, and there were two field trips. To add to our active calendar, we also had the Awards Banquet. The first week of May our school had the 5-8 Music Program, physicals, the 5th and 8th grade plays, a track meet, A.R. celebration, and 8th grade Graduation, all in one week.
Fun Day will be held in Long Island on May 12th. On May 13th the track team will be having their last track meet of the year. With all of this going on, I think we still find time for some classroom work.
On May 16th at 5:30, we will be having a reception for those retiring from our school district. Ann Griffin, Verlaine Schooler, and Glenda Smith are three very important ladies not only to our school, but also to me personally. We wish them the very best as well as Dick and Hazel Ames. Everyone is invited to celebrate their hard work and dedication to our district. The reception will be in Almena at the school.
SIXTH GRADE
AWARDS BANQUET
We had the Northern Valley Annual Awards Banquet on April 27th. Everybody had to bring at least one dish. There was a meat table, salad table, and dessert table. It was all really good. Before the awards were handed out, the coaches talked about the season. Mr. Cole told us all to grow about 3 inches or more. After that we got our awards. By: Cody, Dalton, and Jesse
OUR AWESOME FIELD TRIP
This was one of our best field trips ever. We had so much fun and did all kinds of exciting things. We went to Pioneer Village in Minden, Nebraska. We all went to different kinds of buildings and saw really fascinating things. There were these really freaky life-sized dolls that looked real. We all freaked out when we saw them! There were some buildings that smelled really bad but had really cool stuff in them. After we looked at the buildings, we went to the gift shop and there was a lot of cool stuff. There were pretty bracelets, rabbits’ feet, colorful rocks, and really nice T-shirts. After we got done in the gift shop, we went to go and eat our sack lunches. When we got done, we got on the bus and took off to Holdrege to the YMCA!! We got to swim for 1 hour and a half. The slide was our favorite part of the whole YMCA. After we were done swimming, we got to play in the arcade for free. It was so awesome. After that we had to go so the fun ended. We are really happy we got to go. TRACK MEET
Bonjour! This is Colten, Trey, and Camden. We had a track meet on Monday in Hill City. It was postponed because it rained last Thursday. On Monday, it was chilly and windy. Trey and Colten were in the 400 meter dash. Camden was in the 800 meter run. Eli broke his personal record in the high jump. He jumped 5 feet. After lunch, the weather got warmer and not as windy. It was nice the rest of the day. It was a good day. We will see you very soon at the next track meet. Adios! And whatever you say in French for goodbye.
SEVENTH GRADE
FIELD TRIP
This is the awesome group including Tommy, Morgan, and Destiney. On April 27th we had a field trip. First we went to the IMAX theatre in Hastings. We watched “Prehistoric Sea Monsters.” Tommy’s favorite part was when the big fish ate the little fish. Morgan’s favorite part was when they discovered the fossil of a Dolly. Destiney’s favorite part of the movie was when the baby Dolly survived a shark attack. After the movie, we went to Kearney to eat lunch. There were three different groups. One group went to Arby’s with Miss Barnes. The second group went to Runza with Mrs. Griffiths. The last group went to McDonalds with Mr. Springer. After we all ate lunch, we went to the Big Apple. Some played golf while the others bowled. (All three of us went bowling.) After we finished bowling and playing golf, we played arcade games. We all had fun on the field trip.
AWARDS BANQUET
This week we had an awards banquet. We postponed it to Tuesday instead of Monday because the track kids had a track meet. (They did extremely well.) Tea got two awards because she is a smarty pants. Khrissanna got three awards for athletics. Not all of the awards were for athletics, for example, MACY KASSON! He had a lot of academic awards for his achievements in school. The awards banquet really showed my sister and me how appreciated the kids are here at Northern Valley. XOXO By: Khrissanna and Tea Marie Van Patten
EIGHTH GRADE
AWARDS BANQUET
The Awards Banquet was on April 27, 2010. The banquet was fun. The 8th graders were complimented on their good behavior and sportsmanship in all sports. The 8th graders got all the teachers little gifts to compliment them on how well they taught us. By: Aaron and Dallas
FIELD TRIP
The field trip was amazing. First we went to the IMAX in Hastings, Nebraska. We watched “Prehistoric Sea Monsters.” Then we went to Kearney to eat. The last thing we did was to go to the Big Apple. It was a lot of fun. We got the choice of bowling, inside golf, or outside golf. The ride home was tiring and long and extremely boring! But it was cool. By: Dakota and Mike
8th GRADE PLAY
There are two plays coming up on May 5th. The first play is by the 8th graders, Mrs. Griffiths’s favorite all time class. Then it’s the 5th grade class that is up next. The 8th grade’s play is called “The Loop-to-Loop Flying School.” We cannot remember what the fifth grade’s play is called so we’ll have to get back to you on that. We have to go so Mrs. Griffiths can keep loving the eighth grade more than anyone else. We all hope to do well on our upcoming play. By: Jon
These contributions were written by the students left behind the day of the Quinter track meet. I enjoy reading the thoughts about the same event through different sets of eyes at different ages. Our last column will be written by the 7th graders. This group is looking forward to being 8th graders next year.
Thank you for reading.
