NV Forensics attend Smith Center and Ellis meets

by Ken Tharman

April 01, 2010

This past week the Northern Valley Forensics team has been extremely busy.  We had meets on Thursday, March 25 and Saturday, March 27th.  The meet on Thursday was in Smith Center in the afternoon.  Jimmy Winchell was kind enough to help transport the team over and back.  Irma and Launa provided some delicious home made cookies to keep the boys and girls focused.  I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Griffith who was very instrumental in helping provide transportation (due to an oversight by me).

After it was all said and done, these are the students that made the trip to Smith Center: Samuel Field, Kenzi Husted, Melissa Hawks, Morgan Black, Jordan Herman, Alex Tharman, Jon Compton, Gunnar Hays, Christina Anderson, Daniel Field, Tyson Callaway, Patience Coffman, Sophia Garcia, Zach Vincent, Ashley Constable, and Haley Graham.

After two preliminary rounds, those making it to the finals and their placings were: Gunnar – Extemporaneous (1st place), Zach – Oration (2nd place), Jordan – Humorous Solo (5th place), and Patience – Serious Solo (5th place).

Two days later kids were leaving at oh – too - early for the Ellis Forensic tournament.  Those students braving the moon and stars were: Bryant Tharman, Christina Anderson, Ashley Constable, Kayla Lowry, Morgan Black, and Zach Vincent.

After three preliminary rounds, the following students are the ones that made it to the finals:  Zach – Extemporaneous (3rd place), Kayla – Extemporaneous (5th place), and Zach – Oration (5th place).

I greatly appreciate the dedication these students make to get to as many of the meets as possible.  They are not only trying to get qualified for state, they are representing Northern Valley Schools.  Let me be the first to tell you that your kids have been outstanding this year and Northern Valley is looking AWESOME because of these ambassadors.

Our next meet is the Cheyenne Conference League meet in Palco on April 7th.  This is the last chance for qualification for State Festival or Champs.  We will be having our annual Dinner – and – a – Show production on April 19th.  Please mark your calendars and plan on attending to see these young men and women in action.
