Under the Microscope (01 - 27 - 12)
January 27, 2012
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are already at the last full week of January and ready for February. Before you know it we will be getting ready for gardens and lawn mowing again. During these busy times, please continue to encourage your child(ren) to stay on top of their academic responsibilities.
With the nice temperatures we have been having, try to encourage kids to get outside and take advantage of the fresh, bug – free, weather. Getting needed exercise helps the brain to increase serotonin levels that naturally increases creativity. It also allows them to burn energy and even helps them sleep better. All – in – all, exercise is awesome!!! I know my stress level is lower when I exercise regularly. With everything that kids have going on, don’t we owe it to them to help them feel their best. Even if it means kicking them off the Playstation, X- Box, cell phone, etc. for a while. :-) Soap box complete.

NEXT WEEK:
5th Grade:
The fifth graders did a great job on the tests yesterday. I will return them on Monday. We started the next lesson today and will work on workbooks all day on Monday. WB pages 141 – 144 will be DUE on Wednesday, February 1st.
6th Grade:
We read lesson nine today and will wrap it up next week. There are no workbook pages assigned with this lesson because the students are doing a research project next week. They will have Monday and Tuesday for research and will be presenting their findings on Wednesday and Thursday.
7th Grade:
Notes for lesson 12.1 are due on Tuesday, Jan. 31st. With this chapter, we will continue to have projects that help to bring the lesson to life. This class has been struggling to get assignments done on time. Please remind them to check their planners before heading home to ensure they take home what is needed.
8th Grade:
We will be taking on the pressures of learning about pressure in chapter thirteen. There are several experiments/activities that go along with the notes. Coming up very shortly (at the mid – nine week period) we have a new system of note taking that will go into effect. I have told the students about it, so they are aware. At that time, I will only provide the numbers and letters for the notes. There will be no words indicating which sentence to pull the information from. With that said, there will also be a new grading system in order. I will not be grading the notes, but I will still have due dates and we will check them over as a class. I will be assigning lesson reviews to take the place of the note grades. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact me.
