Forensics is one of those extra curricular events that is extremely time – consuming. The selection of material begins for us as early as December. Practices begin in January, and then the tournaments begin toward the end of January. After that it is practice, practice, practice ….. while driving to school, getting dressed, after school, and any time Mr. Tharman can drag the kiddos away from their many other activities (basketball, track, dance, cheer, FFA, KAY, golf, etc). The entire season we are striving toward one goal …… to go to State. This year we had twelve students that took on the challenge of devoting time to learning and enhancing this life – long skill. Those students were: Camden Cox (senior-team captain), Talia Lowry (senior), Damian Wellman (junior), Ben Jones (junior), Makensy Schroeder (sophomore), Chaylee Lowry (sophomore), Jaden Smith (freshman), Shayna Speer (freshman), Makenna Hammond (freshman), Sydney Brands (freshman), Kim Lowry (freshman), and Kale Cox (freshman). Northern Valley was host for the Western Kansas Liberty League Forensic tournament on Wednesday, April 06, 2016. It was a beautiful day weather – wise and was just as cheery in the performance rooms (unless it was serious solo J). To make this event come together each year, it takes an entire army of volunteers and helpers. I would like to thank the Northern Valley cooks for their delicious breakfast and lunch items they prepared for the hospitality room. I would like to thank the custodians for all of their work in setting up the rooms and gym. I would like to thank the office staff for their assistance in the preparation of the meet as well their help during the tournament. I would like to thank the administrators, teachers, and students for donating their talents of judging, timing, running draw tables, tab room, and being runners during the course of the long day. I want to send out a giant THANK YOU to all of the parents / guardians, friends, and community members that took time to judge for this event or cheer on the competitors each round. It truly was a day that resembled a well-oiled machine . . .
