Re: USD 212 Title I Program
The Title I program is part of the Federal No Child Left Behind Act, which became law in 2002. Title I is a federally-funded program to help students who need improvement in the basic skills of reading and/or mathematics. For this program we are accountable to, and monitored by the Kansas State Department of Education and the local school administration. Students qualifying for this program score below grade level on local measurements, or do not meet standard on state assessments. Students may also be recommended by the classroom teacher.

One of the conditions of the law requires students to be instructed by highly-qualified teachers. Highly qualified means that the teacher holds a valid and current Kansas teaching license. The Title I program teacher at Northern Valley Elementary School is Mrs. LeAnn Leidig and Mrs. Glenda Smith. They both meet the professional qualifications established by the Kansas State Department of Education. Parents/guardians may request additional information regarding the professional qualifications of the teacher by contacting the superintendent.
Parents/guardians will be notified in the event that their student receives Title I instruction for four continuous weeks by a teacher who does not meet the definition of “highly qualified.”
Title I programs are evaluated annually. We request parent/guardian involvement as active participants in that process. The Title I program practices, policies, and activities will be reviewed each spring term.

If you have any questions about the Title I program or how it affects your child, please contact me at (785) 664-2446.

Sincerely,
Chris Robertson
Principal
