Coach Cole’s Comments – The NVJH football team finished their 2020 season on a high note, with a 36-32 win over the Grinnell Thunderhawks. The Huskies played outstanding defense and controlled the ball on offense. Gavin Thalheim and Johnel Speer each had nine tackles to lead the defense. Speer added a fumble recovery, while Thalheim intercepted two passes, one for a ‘pick six.’ On offense, Gavin Thalheim ran for two touchdowns and Owen Hammond ran for one TD and caught a TD pass from Quarterback Thalheim. Each team scored five touchdowns, but the Huskies made 3 two point conversions and held the Thunderhawks to 1 conversion. The Huskies finished the season with a 3-3 record. It was Coach Cole’s 180th win in his 34th year of coaching the junior high against 51 losses. I have been lucky to coach many outstanding teams and lots of great players over the years. It is nice to see this group of boys keep the winning tradition going. Congratulations to the boys on their win. It was a great way to finish the season. I am proud of you!
