Trego County Boys defeat Huskies at home

On Thursday, Feb. 18, NVHS held its Senior/Parent Night prior to the Husky Boys' varsity basketball matchup against the Trego County Eagles in Almena; where the fourth-quarter, game score displayed a 62-53 win for the Eagles.

"With our three seniors, Tharen Cox, Clay Preston, and Brendon Sammons getting the start - the Huskies played the Eagles really tough and trailed only by three at half," reported Head Husky Boys Coach Kevin Sides.  "The third quarter was not good for the Huskies, as they were outscored 15-7 and could not make the deficit up."

"Colton Bailey and Eric Loya led the team with 14 {points} a piece," commented Sides.  "It was a game that we picked up because of cold weather, and I feel it will help both teams in {their league} tournaments.  Offensively, we played pretty well, but we need to play much better defense if we want to make some noise in the Tournament."

Scoring for the Huskies were: Eric Loya, 14; Colton Bailey, 14; Bailey Sides, 9; Foster Brands, 8; Kenton Thalheim, 5; Jeremiah Hansen, 3.

In Husky Boys J.V. action, the Huskies defeated the Eagles 53-52 in four quarters of play.

Scoring for the junior varsity Huskies were: Brody Preston, 17; Kenton Thalheim, 12; Colton Bailey, 8; Kai Cox, 6; Jason Cox, 6; Jeremiah Hansen, 2; Aaron Estes-Henrickson, 2.
