NVHS Boys Clinch Sub-State Basketball Championship

The Northern Valley High School Boys Basketball team won the KSHSAA Class 1A-Division 2 Sub-State Championship title and trophy, after defeating Logan/Palco 64-48 in Rexford on Saturday, March 6, 2021.

"We played great defense all game long on the perimeter and on the block," said NVHS Boys' head coach Kevin Sides.  "Tharen and Colton controlled VanLaeys and made him work all night long, on the block.  I'm very proud of the whole team in that after starting out 0-7, they have worked extremely hard every day in practice and it has paid off for them in a trip to State!"

Scoring for the N.V. Huskies against the Trojans/Roosters were: Eric Loya led with 22 points; Bailey Sides, 20; Colton Bailey, 7; Kenton Thalheim, 6; Tharen Cox, 5; Foster Brands, 2; Jeremiah Hansen, 2.

Leading up to the Sub-State Championship game against Logan/Palco, the NVHS Huskies first had to advance from their semi-final matchup against the St. Francis Indians on Friday, March 5 in Rexford.

The Husky boys brought their best defensive efforts of the season to face the second-ranked Indians (for Class 1A-Div. 2), and capitalized on a 58-47 win.

"Even having the flu-bug going through our team this week, we played our style game and sped up the Indians and wore the bigger Indians {team} out," reported Coach Kevin Sides.  "The kids played with a lot of heart tonight and they earned the right to play in the Sub-State Championships."

Scoring for the Huskies against St. Francis were: Bailey Sides led with 16 points; Kenton Thalheim, 15; Eric Loya, 9; Jeremiah Hansen, 7; Foster Brands, 4; Colton Bailey, 3; Tharen Cox, 2; Drew Schemper, 2.
