Below are the coaches' summaries of the basketball games against Rawlins County on Tuesday.

'On Tuesday, Jan. 4 , the Northern Valley Husky boys handily defeated the visiting Rawlins County Buffaloes 81-49 during their first post-holiday break matchup in Almena.

"We started the new year off with an impressive victory over the Buffaloes," Head Husky Coach Kevin Sides reported.  "All five starters were in double figures led by Senior Bailey Sides with 21, Jeremiah Hansen, 19, Eric Loya, 11, Foster Brands, 11 and Kenton Thalheim 10."

"We got after them early in this game and played our fast-paced style of basketball.  We played really well coming out of the break.  We shot the ball well, shared it really well, and found the open shots - which showed with our balanced attack," Coach Sides said.

"The kids had good practices over break and it showed tonight as my kids played right where we left off for Christmas. We have a tough rematch in Logan on Friday night and we need to play well again to get a win."

Scoring for the Huskies: Bailey Sides led with 21; Jeremiah Hansen had 19; Eric Loya, 11; Foster Brands, 11; Kenton Thalheim, 10; Gabe Rudd, 4; Brody Preston, 3; Drew Schemper, 2.

In two quarters of junior varsity action, the Huskies defeated the Buffaloes 22-19.  Scoring for Coach Brands J.V. squad: Gabe Rudd led with 11; Drew Schemper, 7; Aaron Henrickson, 4.'

'The Northern Valley Huskies Girls took on the Rawlins County Buffaloes on 1/4/22.  The final score against Rawlins County was 32-52. The Huskies came out strong in the first quarter with great pressure and intensity leading to a first-quarter lead. Rawlins County got into their style of offense toward the end of the second quarter and exploded in the third quarter for 20 points that took the game out of reach for the Huskies. The Huskies came out great from the tip off and looked to be in control of the game initially. Our goal going forward is to come out strong and attacking on both sides of the ball and maintain that same intensity for four quarters.

Scoring for the Huskies:  Mary Baird 8, Thayz Saenz and Austyn Cox 6 a piece, Shaylee Vsetecka and Stephanie Whitney 5 apiece, Delaney Sides 2

The Northern Valley JV Girls took on Rawlins County JV in the early action on 1/4/22. The final score was 16-27.  The Huskies faced a strong defense and struggled to score through most of the game. The Buffaloes led from start to finish. The Huskies did very well with not letting the Buffaloes have many second chance shots and did well with defensively taking away much of the Buffalo ½ court offense throughout the game.

Scoring for the Huskies: Tanea Speer 13, Daynah Bailey 3'
