Coach Lowry’s Comments –
The Northern Valley Junior High girls hosted their first game of the season against the Grinnell/Wheatland Thunderhawks. It was a rough start to the season with a 0-36 loss but the junior Lady Huskies showed a lot of potential. They are a young, inexperienced team that showed they are willing to put forth the effort and never give up, working hard until the end of the game. Our defense improved and the girls found more shot opportunities in the second half but nothing fell. We will continue to work on ball movement, attacking the basket and defense before our next game at Logan.
Assistant Coach McKinney’s Comments –
The B-team girls were diligent in their first game and worked out some kinks. Their willingness to try new things and adjust as the game progressed was great.

A Game
Northern Valley JH Huskies A couldn't keep up with Wheatland/Grinnell, losing 42-8. Aaron Horacek led Northern Valley JH Huskies A in scoring with four points. Colt Rogers pounded the glass, collecting eight rebounds to lead Northern Valley. Additional scorers for Northern Valley included Bryson Wilder (2 points) and Colt Rogers (2 points).B Game
The NVJH Boys lost to Grinnell/Wheatland 37-6. Grinnell/Wheatland went on a 14-point run to start the game and never looked back. The Huskies B team also struggled with taking care of the ball. Jaden Johns led Northern Valley in scoring with four points. Colton Ledbetter also contributed for Northern Valley JH Huskies scoring two points.
Comments from coach Max Boehler
I think for a lot of our B team players it was their first time playing organized basketball, so there were a lot of nerves. Hopefully now they have some butterflies out and the game can slow down a little bit for them and play more under control. As for the A team, they have to take care of the ball better. We made a lot of bad passes and had way too many turnovers for us to have any chance. We'll need to improve our decision making and our transition defense also needs a lot of improvement. Fortunately for us we have a handful of practices before our next game.

Here is the information from the WKLL JH VB Tourney that was held in Logan on 10.24.24. This is an A-team only tournament and it is played with pool play both in the morning and afternoon. The JH Huskies started the morning so well and took the first Set from Triplains-Brewster. They were firing on all cylinders and after a hard-fought 2nd set loss of 28-26 the Huskies had a hard time bouncing back. They played a ton of Volleyball playing 3 games to 3 sets. It was a day full of great energy, increased control and confidence and a great team-centered effort. The Huskies came up short and walked away with 4 losses but I couldn't be prouder of their commitment and focus to get better each day. The Huskies were a much-improved team by the end of the season and played with poise, control and multiple 3-touch scenarios. What a great year of Growth!
NV vs. TPB
Lady Huskies came out fighting and took the first set from the Titans. Even with a battle in the second set the Huskies fell to the Titans. The girls served extremely well and passed better than ever the Titans just had a few less errors.

NV vs. Weskan
Our second game did not go the way we wanted and the Weskan squad was pretty solid. The Huskies couldn't escape their missed passes or miscommunications. We were able to play better against them this time than our first match up.

NV vs. Heartland Christian
The afternoon is when the Huskies found a little footing and did a great job winning a set from both Heartland Christian and Logan. We just had a few more errors compared to Heartland Christian. The Huskies did an amazing job serving multiple times in a row and keeping our servers at the service line by playing the ball back up. Multiple long rallies ended with the Huskies just a little less successful than Heartland Christian. This was also our best game of setting and hitting.
Stats:
Aces-Kaylee Miller 4, Cambrie Sproul 3, Avreigh McCue 3, Inez Schemper 2, Annika McKinney 1
Perfect Passes-Annika McKinney 12, Ryelyn Cox 9, Inez Schemper 8, Kaylee Miller 8, Cambrie Sproul 4, Avreigh McCue 3

NV vs. Logan/Palco
The Huskies love playing the Trojans and we were blessed with one last opportunity to play their sea of Red. The Huskies took the second set and just lost a little bit of momentum in the middle of the 3rd so the Trojans walked away victorious. Overall we still had a great game setting up the ball more than ever and keeping control of the ball way more than we were able to at the beginning of the year. It was clear the Huskies put in a ton of time, focus and hard work to end the year at a much better place than where they started.
Stats:
Aces-Ryelyn Cox 2, Cambrie Sproul 2, Annika McKinney 2, Inez Schemper 1, Avreigh McCue 1
Perfect Passes- Annika McKinney 11, Inez Schemper 6, Kaylee Miller 4, Ryelyn Cox 3, Cambrie Sproul 2
Kills-Annika McKinney 4, Cambrie Sproul 1

Heartland Christian : NV lost 23-25, 25-14, 21-25

10/17/24- Northern Valley Junior Huskies vs Western Plains/Healy Bobcats
The Northern Valley Junior Huskies played their final football game on October 17th in Long Island. The game was a flag football game due to the Bobcats having low numbers in the 7th and 8th grades, forcing the schools to play flag football and include the 6th graders. The Junior Huskies were able to have a great team win to cap off the season. The Huskies were able to score quickly on multiple occasions of long runs by Cash Compton as well as get Max Wilder a receiving touchdown and Colt Rogers a rushing touchdown.
Coach Pugh’s Comments- “I think as much as the boys wanted to play contact football, the fact that we were able to have success and a lot of fun for the last game for these 8th graders and go out with a win, was a big positive. We were able to pick up a lead in the 2nd quarter where I felt like we could start putting in some of the younger kids and we cycled everybody in at one point or another. By the end of the game, we had all 5 of our 6th graders in at the same time to help get them some real game experience for next season. It was a great night to be a Husky.”

10.17.24 NV Vs. Western Plains Healy
The Huskies were excited to finish the regular season at home. We were missing a little bit of energy and weren't able to start their passing game against a seasoned serving Bobcat team. The Huskies were able to set the ball up 15 times and showed great moments of flow in their 4-2 offense. One of the A team's goals for next week will be to stop their opponents runs and start the game just a little more aggressively. B team showed some great hustle and put together several good serving runs. Their passing was much better and they were able to control the ball much better. We ended the night loosing A team and B team.
Scores:
A team Lost 25-6, 25-12
B team Lost 25-8, 25-17
Stats:
Perfect Passes- Annika McKinney 5, Cambrie Sproul 3, Ryelyn Cox 3, Kaylee Miller 2, Inez Schemper 1

NV JH VB 10.10.24
NV Vs. Weskan:
Huskies Traveled to Brewster to Play Weskan and the Logan/Palco Trojans.
Brewster is our current meet in the middle place for our JH VB/FB Games with Weskan. This year, Brewster also had a home game this same night with Logan/Palco. So on the Volleyball side, NV played Weskan first and Brewster played Logan/Palco. Winners then played the winners and losers played the losers. Weskan beat the Huskies as it took us an entire game to warm up and get into the playing mindset. The Huskies had a great night of passing against the Coyotes they just didn't play as much 3 touch-controlled volleyball. NV B team also got a chance to play Weskan and they also fell short. We had a good night of serving Weskan did a much better job of covering the entire court and moving with the ball.
NV A team Lost: 10-25, 5-25
NV B team Lost: 12-25, 12-25
Stats:
Aces- Cambrie Sproul 1, Inez Schemper 1
Perfect passes- Annika McKinney 6, Kaylee Miller 5, Ryelyn Cox 1, Inez 1
Kills- Annika McKinney 2, Inez Schemper 1
Assists- Cambrie Sproul 1
NV Vs. Logan/Palco
After NV Lost to Weskan we got a chance to avenge the loss at home against the Logan Palco Trojans, and that we did! After dropping the first set, our JH Huskies dug deep, found some internal motivation and started having fun out on the court. Despite Logan/Palco's relentless attack from the service line and many in system attacks at the net, the Huskies fought hard and answered with many Aces, Kills and amazing defense. The Huskies set up the ball and ran the 4-2 very well. With a couple of Northern Valley Servers finishing out the 3rd set with runs of 7 and 8 the Huskies dominated in the 3rd set. It was exciting to see us play good volleyball and feel good doing so! Way to work hard Lady Huskies!!
NV A Team WON! 10-25, 25-20, 25-10
Stats:
Aces- Cambrie Sproul 4, Annika McKinney 4, Kaylee Miller1, Rowan Brener 1
Perfect Passes- Annika McKinney 7, Kaylee Miller 5, Inez Schemper 4, Ryelyn Cox 1, Cambrie Sproul 1
Kills - Inez Schemper 2, Annika McKinney 1
