
The Northern Valley Huskies were busy golfing on May 4th. The varsity squad traveled to
Oxford, NE, and had an enormous amount of success.
Brody Preston shot an 89 good for 8th place, his best round of golf for his career. and 9 strokes better than his best 18-hole total on the season.
Foster Brands shot a 96 for 11th place staying very consistent with his average score for the year.
Robert Vsetecka shot a 104 for his career-best round as well which earned him 21st place.
Jason Cox shot a 116 for 30th.
The team came in 4th place for the meet.
These four golfers will travel to Phillipsburg on May 9th for their last Invitational before Regionals in Oberlin on May 15th.
The JV squad traveled to Plainville for the annual JV Showcase as their final meet of the season.
Audrey Brubaker had by far her best performance of the season shooting 116. She has managed to shave strokes off of her score at all four meets she has attended. She beat her other 18-hole score on the season by 20 strokes
Deacon Schemper shot his best score of the season as well with a 119. He beat his best score of the season on 18 holes by 13 strokes.
Clay Van Patten shot a 130. He beat his other 18-hole score by 5 strokes.
Ayden Keith shot a 140 for his personal best on the season. He beat his other 18-hole score of the season by 14 strokes.
I'm very proud of the Varsity and JV squads. Both have made enormous growth as golfers on the season.

On Saturday, May 6th two members of our forensics team participated in 1A State Championships in Hutchinson. This is the highest state you can go with forensics!
Kai Cox, Senior and Gavin Thalheim, freshman were our participants.
Kai took a serious solo. He placed 4th for the tournament! Great job, Kai!
Kai and Gavin were partners for IDA (Improvised Duet Acting). They were amazing! They placed first! So they are your 1A State Champs in IDA! Awesome job, boys!
What a great thing for our Huskies! Thank you to all who have supported our team this year. It has been a great run. Good luck to Kai next year as he moves on to college! We will miss you!






Northern Valley High School Track & Field
On May 2 nd the Northern Valley High School Track & Field competed in the
Logan Invitational in Phillipsburg. A total of 12 teams competed.
The NV Girls placed 6 th scoring 31 points as a team. Bringing home medals were
Mary Baird with 1 st in High Jump and 3 rd in the 200m, Landry Gehbard with 3 rd in the
3200m, and the girls 4 x 800m relay team ran by Haley Hansen, Mary Baird, Landry
Gebhard, and Shaylee Vsetecka bringing home 3rd.
The NV Boys came home with 2 nd place scoring 102 points as a team. Bringing
home medals were Jeremiah Hansen with 1 st in the 100m and 200m, Brian Bencomo with
1 st in the 400m and 3 rd in the 200m, Kenten Thalheim with 1 st in pole vault and 2 nd in the
400m, Gabriel Rudd with 1 st in the long jump, and Gavin Thalheim with 2 nd in pole vault.
The boys ran 2 relays getting 2 nd in both the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m ran by Brian
Bencomo, Jeremiah Hansen, Gabriel Rudd, and Kenton Thalheim.
On May 5 th the team traveled to Mankato to complete in the Rock-Hills
invitational. The NV Boys brought home 7 medals. Jeremiah Hansen with 2 nd in the 100m,
Brian Bencomo with 1 st in the 400m, Gabriel Rudd with 1 st in long jump, Kenton Thalheim
with 1 st in pole vault and Gavin Thalheim with 3 rd in pole vault. The men’s relay team took
2 nd in the 4 x 400m and 3 rd in the 4 x 100m.
Coach Hansen, “It was a busy week with two track meets. We had multiple PRs
broken and performed well at both meets finishing out our regular season. Looking
forward to seeing what the kids can do at league next week.”
The Huskies will travel to Colby next Friday to compete and the WKLL League
Meet.

Northern Valley Middle School Girls Track
The Northern Valley Middle School girls traveled to Phillipsburg to participate in the Logan Invitational.
Eleven girls competed and enjoyed the best weather we have had since the season started.
Iris Schemper had good day setting a personal record in her shot put and placing 5 th in the discus. Jordyn
Cox won the pole vault and javelin while taking second in both the 100m and 200m hurdles. Hayden
Cox earned second in the pole vault and high jump while also placing 5 th in the 200m hurdles. Kylee
Ledbetter placed 3 rd in the 100m dash and Rene’ Horacek in the long jump.

Northern Valley Junior High Boys Track Results
Logan Invitational
On Tuesday, May 2 the Northern Valley track team competed in the Logan invitational
meet in Phillipsurg. There were eight schools at the meet on a nice sunny, spring day. The NV
6 th grade boys claimed third place, scoring 56 points. Cash Compton had a big day, winning four
medals. First in the long jump, second in the 100m dash and 100m hurdles and third in the 200.
Aaron Horacek won the silver medal in the shot and bronze in the discus. Jaden Johns added a
second place finish in the 800.
The NV Jr. High boys also had a good day, placing 2 nd as a team with 98 points. Tait
Thalheim won a gold medal in the 100 hurdles. Lucas Hansen also won a gold medal in the
triple jump and added three bronze medals in the long jump, 200 and 400. Griffin McKinney
won two medals, silver in the 200 hurdles and bronze in the shot. Conner David had a PR in the
discus throwing 102’ and placed second.

The Northern Valley Huskies went to Norton for the JV golf meet on May 2nd. The weather was gorgeous and the wind hardly blew to make a wonderful afternoon outside. There were 61 golfers in the 9-hole contest but the round moved along quickly. Brody Preston took home 2nd place and Ayden Keith shot a personal best on the afternoon.

The NV Huskies Golf team sent three golfers to the I-70 Classic on Thursday, April 27th. Foster Brands, Jason Cox, and Robert Vsetecka started in Wakeeney and then headed to Ellis for the afternoon round.
Brands shot a 200 for 33rd, Cox shot a 208 for 37th, and Vsetecka shot a 221 for 47th out of the 60 golfers that competed.
The team stays busy for the upcoming week with JV action in Norton on May 2nd, a JV meet in Plainville on May 4th and a Varsity meet in Oxford, NE on the 4th as well.

The Northern Valley Middle School girls traveled to Quinter for their 42 nd annual invitational track meet.
It was a cold and windy day but the girls competed hard against 15 other teams placing 9 overall.
Jordyn Cox earned a bronze in pole vault and 100m hurdles, and the silver medals went to the 400m
relay team of Andrea Meraz, Jaycee Gebhard, Rene’ Horacek, and Kylee Ledbetter.

Northern Valley Junior High Boys Track Results – Quinter Invitational
On April 28 the Northern Valley Junior High track team traveled to Quinter to compete in the 42 nd
annual Quinter Jr High Track Meet with 15 other schools. The Huskies gave it all they had on a cool,
windy day in western Kansas. The NV junior high boys placed 9 th as a team with 20 points against
some tough competition. The Husky relay teams ran well, placing 2 nd in the 4x100, 3 rd in the 4x200
and 5 th in the 4x400. 7 th grader Lucas Hansen had a PR in the triple jump, placing 4 th with a jump of
31’ 2”.

On Thursday, the new FFA Officers went to the NW district banquet and voted on district officers for the 2023-2024 year. Where Austyn Cox and Kai Cox received certificates for their state degree.






Good morning!! Here is the track meet order of events for the High School meet today at Quinter. Go Big Green!!


The Northern Valley Golf Team traveled to Alma, NE for a 9-hole meet on April 25th. The Huskies did very well overall in the contest which was cool but not windy as all of the previous meets have been. There were 70 competitors and the Huskies were the only Kansas school in attendance.
Brody Preston led the way shooting a 40, good for third place
Foster Brands shot a 42 and secured 7th place
Robert Vsetecka shot a 47, even after taking a circle 10 on a hole, good for a 2oth place finish
Jason Cox shot a 50, also with a 10 on one hole, to take 27th
Deacon Schemper had a career-best finish with a 63 and finished 51st
The Huskies' next meet will be on April 27th at the I-70 Classic. The meet consists of 18 holes starting in Wakeeney in the morning and then another 18 holes in Ellis in the afternoon. Attending will be Foster Brands, Jason Cox, and Robert Vsetecka.

Northern Valley High School Track & Field
On April 21st the Northern Valley High School Track & Field team traveled to Osborne for the
Kaiser Relays Track Meet. A total of twelve teams competed on a very windy day.
The NV Girls placed 10th scoring 21 points as a team. Bringing home medals were Mary Baird
with a three way tie for 2nd place in the high jump, Audrey Bina with 2nd in the triple jump and 4th in
the 200m, and Landry Gebhard with 5th in the 3200m.
The NV Boys came home with 4th place scoring 48 points as a team. Bringing home medals
were Brian Bencomo with 2nd place in the 400m, Kenton Thalheim with 1st in the pole vault and 5th in
the 800m, Gabriel Rudd with 4th in the long jump, Owen Hammond with 2nd in the high jump, and
Gavin Thalheim with 3rd in pole vault. The Husky 4x400m Relay team placed 2
nd ran by Brian
Bencomo, Owen Hammond, Gabriel Rudd, and Kenton Thalheim.
Coach Hansen, “We had multiple athletes missing due to injuries but the Huskies performed
well despite the chilliness and high winds.”
The Huskies will travel to the Quinter Track Meet on Friday the 28th

The NV Huskies competed against a loaded field in Norton on April 21st. The wind was blowing hard for most of the contest and played a factor for all 63 competitors. The Huskies were led by Senior Foster Brands shooting a 99, Junior Brody Preston shot a 103, Junior Jason Cox and Sophomore Robert Vsetecka both shot a 111, Junior Peyton David shot a 130, and Senior Deacon Schemper shot a 142.
The Huskies will take on 9 holes in Alma on April 25th and then have the challenge of the I-70 Classic that consists of 18 holes in Ellis and then 18 holes in Wakeeney in the same day on April 27th.
