The following is a summary of the High School girls' basketball game against the Pike Valley Panthers on Friday. 'The Northern Valley Lady Huskies took on the Pike Valley Panthers in the first round of Substate action on 2/25/22. The Huskies came out with plenty of energy and intensity but struggled to find scoring in the first quarter, digging a quick hole for the rest of the game they were unable to get out of. Fouls were a struggle as well in the first half as many Huskies got into some foul trouble and were forced to sit for long stretches of the game. The free throw line in turn, proved to be where the Huskies were put into the most trouble. The Lady Panthers made 16/23 of their opportunities vs the Huskies’ 9/13. The Panthers were able to force some turnovers by the Huskies that took away scoring opportunities and were able to close down the lane from the Huskies being able to get shots closer to the basket. The Lady Huskies fought through the entire game and played their hearts out to the final horn. Scoring for the Huskies: Austyn Cox- 19, Delaney Sides- 11, Braxton Cox- 9, Mary Baird- 2. The final score of the game was 41-51. The team has grown tremendously over the course of the season and shown an immense improvement over the beginning of the season. There have been some true displays of this team’s abilities in both wins and losses. This team brings back all but one Senior, Savannah Rose, next season and will be ready to make some noise in the years to come.

The following is the summary of the High School boys' basketball game against the Phillipsburg Panthers on Monday. 'On Monday, Feb. 21 the Northern Valley Husky boys' basketball team traveled to play Phillipsburg, and lost 64-59 to a hot-shooting Panther team. Twin head coaches Keith Sides and Kevin Sides scheduled this varsity game to round out both of their boys' regular 2021-2022 basketball seasons.  The Panthers entered the matchup with a 9-10 record.  The Huskies held a 18-2 record prior to Monday night's meeting. Coach Keith Sides' Panthers started off the game hot, making their shots from the field.  The Huskies trailed 25-13 after the first quarter.  "We let them have open shots, but battled back to close the half - only trailing 30-35," Coach Kevin Sides reported. The Huskies trailed the Panthers the entire game, but were able to get within one point during the second half.  Free-throw opportunities helped Phillipsburg widen their winning margin; and they were able to place another win in their season's victory column. Quarter scores for the Huskies/Panthers were: 13-25; 17-10; 15-14; 14-15. Joel Ford led his Panther team with 19 points. Scoring points for Northern Valley, Senior Eric Loya led the Huskies with 16 points; Senior Bailey Sides scored 12; and Sophomore Kenton Thalheim contributed 12.  Sophomore Jeremiah Hansen scored 8 points; Junior Foster Brands scored 7; and Sophomore Drew Schemper tallied 4 points for the Huskies. "This ended our regular season with a 18-2 record and a top seed in next week's Class 1A Division 2 Sub-State Tournament," said Husky Head Coach Kevin Sides. "We didn't play very well against Phillipsburg, as our transition defense failed us. We just left them with too many open shots early on.  We fought our way back, but couldn't make a lot of shots down the stretch.  I thought that the Ford twins were keys to their win, as they were on fire when they needed them." As the first seeded- team, the Huskies earn a first-round bye in their Sub-State Tournament.  Northern Valley's next game will be Thursday, March 3 in Beloit - when they will face the winner of Beloit/St. Johns - Scandia/Pike Valley's first round, sub-state tournament matchup. During J.V. boys' action against Phillipsburg, Northern Valley came up short of a 56-42 Panther victory.  Scoring for Assistant Coach Glenn Brands' junior varsity team were the following Huskies: Gabriel Rudd led scores with 15; Brody Preston scored 8; Jason Cox, 6; Drew Schemper, 6; Aaron Henrickson, 4; Caden Lowry, 3. The J.V. Huskies ended their regular season with a 9-4 record.'

Let's honor Charlie by helping support a great cause! The Carolyn Scott Rainbow House in Omaha is a temporary home to families who have loved ones receiving treatment in the hospital. The plants being raffled were given at Charlie's funeral and have been growing in our greenhouse here at school. We plan to continue propagating and raising money in years to come to support these great causes!
