The Husky golf team competed in Plainville at the JV Showcase on May 8th. It was a full 18-hole competition beginning at 9 am with 44 golfers. Conner David took home second place with an 84 at +14. Robert Vsetecka took home 6th place with a 90 to end at +20. Audrey Mathews finished with a 107 at +37 in 25th place.
The Huskies next competition will be at Phillipsburg on May 13th where Robert and Conner will be paired against other top golfer pairings for a 2-man competition. Audrey will golf individually due to the odd number of golfers on the Husky team.
Northern Valley Middle School Girls Track
The Northern Valley Middle School traveled to Cambridge, NE, to compete in the Cambridge JH Track and Field Event. It was a beautiful day for competition with a lot of competitive athletes. We had 10 girls: two sixth graders, six seventh graders, and two eighth graders, competing as a team. The girls continue to improve their times, distances and heights but unfortunately, we were not able to score many points.
The only athlete to place in the top six was Cambrie Sproul in the 100m hurdles placing sixth.

The FFA Chapter took 6 kids to State CDE Judging in Manhattan on Monday and Tuesday! The kids did great and had a great time. For Dairy Judging the kids placed as a team 49th, Livestock as a team they placed 68th, and Food Science they placed 53rd as a team!

CAMBRIDGE TROJANS INVITATIONAL – JH TRACK MEET

The Junior Huskies traveled to Cambridge, NE for their 6th track meet of the season. This had been the first time in 20 years that the Huskies competed in a Nebraska track meet. The order of running events was a little different, there was no javelin, no 3200, and no 4x200 relay. Nonetheless the Huskies competed hard and quite a few athletes had successful days. On the boys side, we scored 28 points, and we had 9 personal records on the day. The best personal record of the day came from Max Wilder as he ran a 6:05.66 mile, which was a PR by 8 seconds. Cash Compton took home another gold medal in the 200 Hurdles, and had his best race all season, he met every hurdle in perfect stride and flew to the finish line.

Northern Valley High School Track & Field
On May 2nd the Northern Valley High School Track & Field team traveled to Quinter to compete in the Quinter HS Invitational. A total of 17 teams competed. The NV Boys came home with 8th place with only two athletes scoring. Bringing home medals were Gavlin Thalheim with 3rd in pole vault and 5th in javelin and Owen Hammond with 2nd in 110m hurdles, 3rd in 300m hurdles, and 5th in both high jump and long jump.
Coach Hansen, “We are dealing with some injuries, but the Huskies worked hard all day against some tough competition. The Huskies have had consecutive weeks of new PRs showing continued growth and we had another 4 set during this meet.” The Huskies will travel to Mankato to compete in the Rock Hills Invitational, our last regular season meet.

On Sunday May 4th, Haley Hansen accepted the Governor's Scholar Award from Governor Laura Kelly awarded to the top 1% of Seniors from each Kansas high school. Haley chose Mrs. Lewis as her Teacher of Influence to attend the ceremony with her and parents Joshua and Lacey
Northern Valley Middle School Girls Track
The Northern Valley Middle School traveled to Quinter, KS for a very competitive track meet on a chilly, breezy day. Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders competed as one team against 16 other schools making it difficult for sixth graders to place, however, we focus on setting new personal records rather than team scores.
The only event to place in the top six was our 800-meter relay team consisting of Shelby Lentz, Cambrie Sproul, Annika McKinney, and Brielle Britton with fourth place.

QUINTER INVITATIONAL JH TRACK

The Huskies Junior High track team traveled to Quinter on Friday to compete in their 5th track meet of the season. Quinter had 5 new jump pits/runways, new throwing areas, the weather was nice, and the NV Boys had a better day than expected! We scored 31 points against 15 teams, and the meet was 6th/7th/8th all together. Cash Compton took home the only gold for the Huskies in the 200 Hurdles. Personal bests on the day were from: Max Wilder, 1600 (6:13.32), 100H. Cash Compton, 200 (26.76). Aaron Horacek, Discus (96’3”).

On May 6th, the Husky golfers took on the Norton JV meet. There were 55 golfers on the day, and the 3 Huskies all did very well. The course was set up to eliminate some of the hazards of the course for keeping the pace of play moving and allow the mostly younger field to get some valuable experience. Robert Vsetecka shot a 45 and took 2nd place overall. Conner David wasn't far behind with a 47 to place him 6th. Audrey Mathews had her best meet of the year and reached her goal of shooting below 60 with a 58 and finishing 25th.
The Huskies next meet will be the final JV competition in Plainville on May 8th at the JV Showcase for 18 holes and a chance at “the jacket”.

5th Grade at Water Jamboree- Harlan County Lake
The student council and cheer and dance try outs were this afternoon. The kids did great! Congratulations to all the students!!
The Northern Valley Husky Golfers took on the JV meet held in Alma, NE on April 29th. The meet, like most JV meets, was a 9-hole competition. In total, there were 57 participants with the Huskies bringing three. Robert Vsetecka led the Huskies shooting a 49, but had a really bad hole where he took a circle-10 which eliminated him from medal contention. Robert's 49 tied had him for 7th. The circle-10 rule is meant to speed up play when a player reaches ten strokes on a hole and is not finished, they pick up their ball and move to the next hole. Outside of that one hole, he played good golf the whole day.
Conner David shot a 53 that put him in 16th place on the day. Conner, strangely enough, had his only circle-10 of the day on the same hole as Robert. He also had a pretty good day, outside of that one hole.
Audrey Mathews shot a 64 which placed her 30th in the middle of the pack for the day. She had a consistent day and holds bragging rights over the boys for finishing that pesky Hole #5. She continues to work and improve her game each week.
The Huskies next competition will be the JV meet at Norton on May 6th.
The Husky golf team had a good showing at the Norton Varsity Invitational on April 24th. Conner David led the way shooting a career best 95, Robert Vsetecka shot a 97, and Audrey Mathews continues to improve each meet and shot a 129. It was a very tough field of competition so we didn't have any medalists this time, but a day on the golf course is always a good day!

On April 25
th the Northern Valley High School Track & Field team traveled to Osborne for the
Kaser Relays.
Bringing home medals for the girls were Haedyn Cox with 5
th in pole vault and Jordyn Cox
with 5th in the 300m hurdles.
Owen Hammond led the NV Boys earning 4 medals for the day taking 1st in long jump, 2nd in
the 300m hurdles, 2nd in high jump, and 4th in the 110m hurdles. Gavin Thalheim brought
home first place in the javelin.
