Four Northern Valley Boys headed down to Wichita last weekend to compete in the KSHSAA State Championship. Seniors Kenton Thalheim (Pole Vault, Triple Jump, and 300M Hurdles) and Jeremiah Hansen (Long Jump) and Sophomores Gavlin Thalheim (Javelin and Pole Vault) and Owen Hammond (110M Hurdles & 300M Hurdles).
Bringing home state medals were Owen Hammond placing 8th in the 300M Hurdles, Gavlin Thalheim with a tie for 4th in the pole vault and 4th in javelin, and Kenton Thalheim with 1st in triple jump and 2nd in pole vault. Kenton broke his own school record in the triple jump (earned at Regionals) with a massive jump of 45 feet 6 inches! Kenton also broke his brothers school pole vault record, set earlier this season, with a jump of 14 feet!
"To say I am proud of these boys for making it to state in a total of 8 events is an understatement. Our two sophomores, Gavin and Owen, will be fun to watch over the next couple of years as they to continue to improve. As always, Northern Valley had quite the fan section and getting to watch as Kenton broke two school records was exciting to say the least. I wish all of the seniors good luck in the future."

Northern Valley High School Track & Field
On May 17th the Northern Valley High School Track & Field traveled to Tribune,
KS to compete in Regional Track Four NV boys punched their ticket to State in a total of
8 events and a new school record set by Kenton Thalheim in the triple jump.
Northern Valley took 4 girls to Regionals. Freshman, Jordyn Cox and Jaycee
Gebhard, sophomore, Audrey Bina, and junior Landry Gebhard. “Though the girls did not
make it to state every one of them fought to the end. Landry set a new personal record
running over 11 seconds faster in the 2 mile battling for 4th all the way to the end. I am
proud of their hard work and improvement throughout the year.” Said Coach Hansen.
Northern Valley took 5 boys. Sophomores Owen Hammond and Gavin Thalheim
and seniors Kenton Thalheim, Gabe Rudd, and Jeremiah Hansen. “These boys have all
worked hard this week to compete at their best and came away with 8 events going to
state. Kenton beat the Northern Valley School triple jump record of 43”3.5” set by Austin
Herman in 2011 with a final jump of 43’8”. Very proud of the determination by this group
of boys and look forward to next week.”

Geometry students ended their year with a popsicle stick bridge construction project. They had 100 sticks and and a bottle of glue to span a minimum of 40 cm. Bridges held anywhere from 5 to 80 pounds of weight before collapsing. Owen's bridge won holding just over 80 pounds!

The Northern Valley Huskies golf season came to an end on May 13th at the Regional Competition at the Atwood Country Club. The Huskies shot a better total score than last year's state bound team, but the team overall faced a very good field of competition and came in 7th place by taking the top four scores from the Huskies. The top three teams and the next 5 golfers that are not on one of those three teams advance to the State Competition in Hesston this year.
Senior Jason Cox led the Huskies shooting 97 and two spots shy of making the State Competition as an individual. Jason finished his final golf tournament with an eagle on hole 18.
Junior Robert Vsetecka shot a 104, Senior Jeremiah Hansen shot a 105, Senior Kenton Thalheim shot a 112, and Freshman Connor David shot a 116.
I want to thank Coach Hansen for letting me steal two of his best track athletes in Jeremiah and Kenton to help fill out our varsity squad. I also want to thank those two for going out of their comfort zones and learning a difficult sport in a short amount of time. Golf is not as easy as it looks!
The guys played the tough course well at times during the day and other times not as consistently as they needed to. Going into the meet, we knew we needed to have a great showing with four scores in the 90's to advance to State. It's disappointing to miss the opportunity to advance, but I'm very proud of everyone on the team for all of their effort and work this season.
Pictured are everyone's initial tee shots of the day:

The six senior boys in the construction technology class have been working very hard to create a nice shed/mini home to put up for sale. Though the year is ending, construction is not moving as fast as we would like. The exterior of the building will be finished. We are accepting sealed bids on the shed from now until the end of day on May 16th. Mr. Tharman will contact the winning bid to make arrangements for pickup. As always, we appreciate the communities support in everything we do as Huskies.
